THE EMERALD 100

The Emerald 100 is an installation that combines ecological and environmental awareness with an interactive playscape.
Felled Ash logs are placed throughout the space in a variety forms found throughout the landscape such as mountains, valleys, bridges and paths.
A third of the logs will be marked with the purple paint used to signify the Emerald Ash Borer disease by the City of Winnipeg, reflecting the coming fate of the Winnipeg Ash canopy. This juxtaposition of a dire future and light-hearted play brings a dimension of tension to the installation, underlining the necessity to invest in protecting our tree canopy for future generations.
The Emerald 100 is a macabre vision of what could be a common sight in the coming years and will bring awareness to the emerald ash borer. It is a call to action as our mountains, valleys, and cherished landscapes are at stake.
